Muslims across Uganda will on Friday join a National Prayer for Rain, Salatul-Istisqa, as the country continues to grapple with prolonged dry conditions affecting several parts of the nation.
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) announced the special prayer in a letter dated September 2, signed by the Secretary for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Ssali Imran Abdunoor, and addressed to all Regional Assistants to the Mufti, District Kadhis, County Sheikhs, and Imams countrywide.
According to the letter, the prayer will be conducted simultaneously in all mosques across Uganda on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 1:40 p.m.
“Following the prolonged dry conditions being experienced in different parts of the country, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has organized a National Prayer for Rain, seeking the mercy, forgiveness and blessings of Almighty Allah,” the letter reads.
UMSC has directed Regional Assistants to the Mufti and District Kadhis to take the lead in mobilizing Muslims within their respective areas, and to ensure that Imams, County Sheikhs, and mosque leaders are informed and adequately prepared to organize and lead the prayer.
Muslims across the country have been encouraged to turn to Allah through Istighfar (seeking forgiveness), repentance, dua (supplication), charity, and good deeds as they seek His mercy and beneficial rainfall for the country.
The letter was copied to the Mufti of Uganda and the Honorary Secretary General of UMSC.
