Law students at Islamic University in Uganda on Saturday held their 2026 Annual Law Dinner at the university’s main campus in Mbale City, bringing together students, members of the Judiciary, the Uganda Law Society, and academia.
The dinner attracted several distinguished legal practitioners and guests from across the country.
The event was graced by Anthony Asiimwe, who was accompanied by members of the bar, including renowned Mbale-based lawyer Eddie Nagulu.
Delivering the keynote address, Asiimwe described the occasion as both a celebration and a moment of reflection for aspiring lawyers.
“It is an honor to be here with you today,” he said, adding that speaking before future legal professionals was not an easy task.
“It is much easier to cross-examine a witness than to decide what to say to a room full of brilliant future colleagues,” he remarked.

Asiimwe also shared his personal journey from a humble background to becoming a leader within the Uganda Law Society, encouraging students to remain committed to integrity, discipline, and hard work.
Throughout his address, he emphasized humanity and humility as key values in the legal profession, noting that lawyers should always see the human being behind every file they handle.

The annual dinner also featured the swearing-in ceremony of the new Law Students’ Association cabinet. Tamera Alexander was sworn in as the 22nd leader of the association, taking over from Chemutai Leonard.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, the new leadership pledged to promote professionalism, unity, and academic excellence among law students at the university.
The annual dinner is one of the major events on the law students’ calendar and serves as a platform for interaction between students and practicing legal professionals.
