Bugwanya FC were crowned champions of the Ssewakiryanga Anthony Memorial Cup 2026 after defeating Emirates Soccer Academy 2-1 in a thrilling final played on Sunday at MultiTech Playground in Kikubampanga.

The three-day tournament, which was played from 28th to 30th August 2026, brought together 16 teams across four venues: Kakiri Gombolola, MultiTech Business School, Wakiso Muslim School, and St. Charles Playgrounds.
The tournament was organized to celebrate the life of the late footballer Ssewakiryanga Anthony, cherish the memories he left behind, and keep his spirit alive. The main aim was to raise funds to support his family.

Forever remembered. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
In an emotional moment, Mwesigwa David, the Chairman of Big Talent FC where the late used to play, announced that the team had retired his jersey.
“In remembering our brother, we shall never use Jersey Number 4 in our team again, out of love and respect for our friend. The jersey Number 4 was handed over to the family,” Mwesigwa said.

A family representative thanked the organizers, sponsors and all 16 teams that participated, and requested that the memorial tournament be played every year to keep his legacy alive.
Mr. Kawere James, Director of JAZK Property Consultants and the main sponsor of the tournament, said it was an honor to support the event.
“He was a personal friend. He used to get me customers and he bought land from me. So it was an honour for me to be part of this in remembering my friend,” Kawere said.
Ssewakiryanga Anthony was killed on 4th May 2026. He is survived by a wife and one child.

May his soul continue to rest in peace.
