PLU Opens Kakiri Office to Intensify Youth Mobilization Ahead of 2031.

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has opened a new office in Kakiri Town Council as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and mobilise young people ahead of its long-term political agenda.

PLU leaders said the decision to establish a permanent presence in Kakiri was largely driven by the high number of unemployed young people in the area.

Mr Johnson Kategaya said the youth are an important part of PLU’s mobilisation efforts and that the new office will help coordinate members and leaders while strengthening the organisation’s structures at the grassroots.

Mr Wasswa Ronald and Mr Mutumba were named coordinators responsible for overseeing PLU activities at the Town Council and sub-county levels.

The launch was conducted under PLU’s ongoing BARAZA programme, which aims to strengthen party structures, reconnect leaders with supporters and expand the organisation’s presence in communities.

Leaders also used the launch to mobilise supporters for a major PLU gathering scheduled for October 3, 2026, at Kira Playgrounds in Wakiso District.

The event is expected to attract PLU leaders and supporters from across the region, with Michael Nuwagira Kaguta, popularly known as Toyota, expected as Guest of Honour, alongside Hon. Fadil Twalla, the PLU Secretary General.

According to the organisers, the event will feature political mobilisation as well as community activities, including medical services, entertainment and legal aid.

Mr Asafu Nawurira said mobilisation activities would continue in Wakiso and Gombe as PLU strengthens its grassroots support and promotes its long-term political agenda.

He said the organisation is preparing its structures around the possibility of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba appearing on the ballot in 2031.

Ms Sharon Atwine, a PLU legal officer, urged residents of Kakiri to attend the October 3 event to access information about legal services.

She said the legal aid programme forms part of PLU’s message of justice, accountability and the fight against corruption.

Some residents welcomed the opening of the new PLU office, saying it would give young people and other community members an opportunity to participate more actively in political affairs.

Mr Garabuzi Joseph, a resident of Kakiri, said the new structures offered residents an opportunity to support what he described as a new generation of leadership.

Another resident, Mr Kirunda Muhammad, said that although young people form a significant part of PLU’s support base, leaders should also pay attention to the elderly and other sections of the community.

He also called for stronger action against corruption and urged citizens to report cases of graft.

The opening of the Kakiri office adds to PLU’s expanding grassroots presence as the organisation continues to strengthen its structures and mobilise supporters across the country.
