The election of Hon. Annet Musibikha as Chairperson of the Manafwa District Women Council without opposition has shifted attention to her plans for uniting women and improving their economic well-being across the district.
Musibikha was declared chairperson after she emerged unopposed in the district-level women’s council elections conducted by the Manafwa District Electoral Commission.
Returning Officer Gilbert Meru announced Musibikha and three other women as elected representatives at the district level, noting that all four candidates had gone unopposed.
While declaring the leaders, Meru congratulated them and urged them to work together to ensure that the voices and concerns of women are effectively represented in district affairs.
For Musibikha, however, her new position comes with a responsibility to reach women beyond the district headquarters and engage them at the grassroots.
Speaking after her declaration, she pledged to work with women from the village level upwards, with a focus on understanding and addressing challenges affecting their livelihoods.
She said her leadership would prioritise unity among women while supporting initiatives aimed at improving household incomes, economic independence and social well-being.
Musibikha also called on women across Manafwa District to actively participate in programmes that can strengthen their economic position and improve their families’ livelihoods.
Her unopposed election now gives her an opportunity to build consensus among women leaders and translate the council’s mandate into practical interventions at community level.
