KAMPALA – Teso Zone schools have continued to assert their growing dominance in schools’football after both Wakiso giants were spectacularly dumped out at the semifinal stage of the ongoing National Under-20 Boys Football Championship on Monday, May 18, 2026.
The dramatic results have set up an enticing all-Teso region final between Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School, firmly underlining the region’s rise as the new powerhouse of Ugandan schools’ football.
Giants Slain in the Semis
Bukedea Comprehensive was the first to book a slot in the coveted final, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over a resilient Wakiso-based opponent. Forward Patrick Ssekunsu proved to be the hero of the day, netting the solitary strike that broke Wakiso’s hearts.
In the other semifinal encounter, Amus College pulled off a stunning tactical masterclass to eliminate the defending champions. After a grueling, goalless draw in normal time, Amus held their nerve to win 4-1 in a tense penalty shootout.
The victory further cements Amus College’s psychological edge over Bukedea Comprehensive this season, having consistently beaten them in every local final they have contested within the Teso region.
Speaking during a post-match USSSA press conference, the Amus College head coach credited meticulous preparation and unshakeable belief for their historic run.

“It is a derby, although both teams are far away from home. We came here to make history, and there is no success without preparation. We have prepared very well for this moment,” he noted.
Amus College team captain, Iddi Abdul Rashid, echoed his coach’s confidence but remained cautious about the final hurdle.
It will not be an easy game, but we shall do our level best to achieve victory, Rashid said.
On the other side of the camp, Bukedea Comprehensive tactician, Coach Ssali, dismissed the relevance of their past defeats to Amus, insisting the national stage is a completely different ball game.
A final is a final. Past statistics will count for little once the whistle blows. Right now, we are focusing on preparing our players mentally for the big match. Coach Ssali said.
Bukedea captain Steven Balagadde described reaching the national final as a proud milestone for the squad. “This is a great achievement for me and my teammates, and we want to finish the job, he said.
What Next?

As the two Teso titans prepare to lock horns for the ultimate silverware, the eliminated Wakiso representatives will have to dust themselves off to fight for pride. Meanwhile, the classification matches will continue, featuring lower-tier placement battles to determine the 15th and 16th positions in the national rankings.
