A flawless campaign by Kamonkoli Seed Secondary School stole the spotlight at the Bukedi Zone Secondary School Sports Competitions 2026, which climaxed on April 18 at Busolwe Secondary School.

Kamonkoli Seed not only lifted the girls’ trophy but did so in emphatic fashion, completing the entire tournament without conceding a single goal. Their dominance was sealed with a 3–0 victory over Riverside High School Busia in the final, as Khabuya Babra and Taaka Aisha once again proved decisive in attack

The Budaka-based side’s journey to the title underlined their superiority. They opened with a 4–0 win over Gogonyo before dispatching Blessing SS 3–0 and thrashing hosts Mulagi Girls 5–0. In the knockout stages, Kamonkoli overwhelmed Lumino High 7–0 in the round of 16, beat Pallisa SS 2–0 in the quarterfinals, and overcame St. Claire Girls High School 2–0 in the semifinals before finishing the job in style against Riverside.

Their defensive solidity and attacking efficiency defined the tournament. Goalkeeper Nakusi Aidat walked away with the best goalkeeper award after keeping a clean sheet throughout, while Taaka Aisha’s nine goals earned her the golden boot. Team captain Katooko Richeal was named the most valuable player, highlighting the team’s all-round excellence.

While Kamonkoli dominated the girls’ competition, Busia Secondary School quietly maintained their grip on the boys’ title. They edged St Peter’s College Tororo in a tightly contested final, decided by Asuman Sadiqi’s second-half free kick in front of a large crowd.

As the tournament concluded, attention shifted to national preparations. Bukedi Zone, which currently has three slots, is pushing for increased representation. Zone chairperson Dominic Maloba urged the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association to allocate an additional slot, citing the high level of competition. The guest of honor, Cherukut Toskin Fred, promised to forward the request for consideration.

Kamonkoli Seed, Riverside High School and St. Claire Girls will carry Bukedi’s hopes in the girls’ category at the nationals, while Busia Secondary School, St. Peter’s College Tororo and Lumino High will represent the boys, although Lumino High’s qualification remains under review following a reported petition.
